The police on Friday arrested two robbers involved in a series of snatching and robbery cases in the city. The arrested are drug addicts who also own a country-made pistol and are learnt to have used it to threaten drunkards.

The police arrested Sunny Chauhan and Ashish Walia,in their early twenties from near roundabout on the road dividing Sectors 25 and 38. The youth riding on a motorcycle were chased and nabbed when they tried to dodge a police party at an anti-snatching checkpoint laid in Sector 25.

During verification of their documents it was found that the accused had displayed a fake registration number on the motorcycle.

The police searched them which led to the recovery of a 303 country-made pistol along with a cartridge from Sunny and two cartridges from Walia.

Police said during interrogation the accused disclosed that they had committed 24 incidents of snatching, robberies, burglaries and thefts in different parts of the city.

DSP (Central) Jagbir Singh said a Maruti car,two motorcycles, five mobile phones, two bicycles, three gas cylinders,a country-made pistol and three cartridges were recovered from them. More recoveries were likely from the accused following their sustained interrogation. Sunny’s parents had disowned him while Ashish’s mother had died. Both are known to two other robbers,Ilyas and Vinod, who were arrested earlier this month, the police added.

The DSP said these youths were known to each other and were in touch with two other accomplices of Vinod and Ilyas, who are absconding.
