Trouble brews though SAD makes changes

To do away with allegations that it was favouring the kin of its leaders as candidates for the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation polls,the SAD seems to have done some immediate corrections in the list of candidates.

To do away with allegations that it was favouring the kin of its leaders as candidates for the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation polls,the SAD seems to have done some immediate corrections in the list of candidates. However,trouble still brews in a few wards. On the other hand,while BJP is yet to decide on candidates for two wards,nine more Congress rebels on Saturday announced that they will contest the upcoming elections.

Following revolt by sitting SAD councillors Harbhajan Singh Dang and Inderjeet Gill,the party has given the ticket to Dangs wife Surjit Kaur Dang from ward number 47,from where Dang is the sitting councillor. This ward is now reserved for women. Earlier,Dang was given the ticket from ward number 61. In ward number 61,SAD has given ticket to Rakhwinder Singh Gabria son of former minister Hira Singh Gabria.

Gill was the another SAD councillor who had refused to contest from ward number 67 and asked for the ticket from ward number 45,from where Kamaljeet Karwal is scheduled to contest. On Friday,Gills ward number 67 seat was given to Ranjeet Singh Ubhi. Gill,who till Friday morning had said that he will contest an Independent from ward number 45,said he will not contest at all in the evening.

Moreover,while sitting SAD councillor Tehal Singh has been denied ticket this time from ward number 60,Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal has managed to get the seat for his relative Jaswinder Singh Bhola. SAD had won the seat for three consecutive terms.

Meanwhile,though the BJP has declared its second list of candidates,still there has been no decision on two wards. According to sources,while former health minister Satpal Gosain is keen to field his candidate from ward number 41,district BJP president Parveen Bansal wants his candidate. The other ward under cloud is 53.

The Congress,on the other hand,is facing the wrath of rebels. On Saturday as well,nine more rebels announced that will contest under the banner of Congress Workers Forum.
