The Wadhwani Foundation and IL&FS Skills Development Corporation (ISDC) jointly announced an initiative to train and recruit about 13,500 educated disabled persons across the country and the first batch of students will be trained at the Chandigarh centre.

The three-year initiative is an intensive advocacy, training and hiring campaign to foster an atmosphere of increased opportunity and greater social acceptance for the educated disabled in the employment sector. Ajay Kela,President and CEO of Wadhwani Foundation said,“We believe that the educated disabled are as productive as any other section of the population and bring in many special skills into an organization. They have tenacity, staying power and a can-do attitude, which makes them better employees.”

Under this program, the ISDC will use its extensive network of franchisees, partners, training providers and corporations,to mobilise, train, and mentor the educated disabled. The Wadhwani Foundation, through its OND initiative, has till now facilitated the training of over 4,000 educated disabled persons and placed over 3,000 of them. This initiative will also sensitize employers towards integrating the educated disabled within their organization.

Arun Kumar Pillai,COO,ISDC said,“We are very happy to sign this MoU with the Wadhwani Foundation, whereby we would train and place 14,000 persons with disabilities in the next 3 years. We believe that ISDC’s capabilities along with Wadhwani Foundation’s commitment to mainstreaming this section of youth, will provide the lead for many such livelihood initiatives in this space.”

ISDC has been in skill development for the last three years. It had earlier partnered with Wadhwani Foundation and started a pilot project, the results of which were very encouraging.
