(Source: File)The Chandigarh Administration has begun the process of identifying designated parking sites for tourist buses in compliance with directions issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The issue was discussed at a meeting chaired by the UT Deputy Commissioner on Friday, which was attended by the Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) and officials from the Municipal Corporation and the State Transport Authority.
The meeting focused on streamlining tourist bus parking to reduce congestion and ensure smoother traffic movement in the city. Sites at Hallomajra and Manimajra in Sector 13 were discussed as potential parking locations.
The Municipal Corporation was directed to fix suitable daily parking charges and to consider introducing monthly parking passes for tourist buses. It was also asked to ensure the availability of basic civic amenities at the identified sites for the convenience of drivers and tourists.
The State Transport Authority was instructed to strictly monitor unauthorised parking of tourist buses and issue challans under relevant legal provisions. Officials were told to ensure strict enforcement of court directions and maintain coordination for timely compliance.
The departments were asked to expedite the process and submit progress reports within the stipulated timeframe.
