This winter,snug and stylish tights and leggings aren’t just the prerogative of little girls!

It’s perhaps the best thing to have happened this winter! Though not a new arrival,given the fact that little girls have always looked adorable in coloured tights and leggings,it’s time for the ladies to leg them as well! With the weather taking a turn,fashionistas the world over have stepped out dressed in stylish tights and leggings paired with tunics,longer shirts and even hip-length knits. If you are an ‘80s fashion buff,then you would remember the psychedelic versions that most pop stars flaunted complete with killer heels. Though a retro take,the trend this season is more on the lines of British plaid meets Indian churidaar! There are three options riding the trend-o-meter. There are the stockings that are sheer; tights that are opaque and end at the ankles to leggings that cover the foot as well. “Stockings have been a very Western thing until now. With women choosing to step out in dresses now,they are getting comfortable with the concept of stockings too,” explains designer Mini Sondhi of the fashion store ‘Bling,Bling’. Working on her winter collection that boasts of trendy dresses and longer tunics,Mini is looking to stock up on tights and leggings too. “Leggings are warmer and look cute worn under shorts and skirts in winter. It’s like summer never left,” quips the designer and stylist who mentions new arrivals such as tartan prints to even denim look-alikes.

More recently,it was actor Soha Ali Khan who stepped out in all-black dress complete with matching leggings along with jewellery designer Shaheen Abbas who seems to have more than one pair! “Yes,leggings and tights are definitely a new trend this winter. At Madame we have launched ankle-length tights in warm versions as well in multiple colours and patterns,” informs the brand’s creative director Akhil Duggal who goes on to add,“tights and leggings are great for all age groups. Given the fact that ladies prefer to wear hip-length tunics,tights are the perfect option as bottom wear instead of bulky denims. The look is flattering for all body types.”

No wonder then that at Shelly’s Wardrobe in Sector 8,the stylist has already run out of her range of tights and leggings. “They were a complete sell-out. We are now looking to not just replenish the collection but bring in newer patterns and colours,” informs Shelley,who suggests slipping on stockings with short dresses and tights and leggings with tunics or longer sweaters and knits.

Another store that caught our attention with their extensive range of tights in prints and checks was Isabelle in DLF Mall. A one-size-fits all,the tights are warm and come in ankle-length as well as capri versions. The plaid and tweed prints are off beat and chic. So this winter get set to be snug and stylish without the fuss.
