Ticket to sitting MLAs not guaranteed: Amarinder

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh has made it clear that tickets to sitting party MLAs for the next Assembly elections.

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Capt Amarinder Singh has made it clear that tickets to sitting party MLAs for the next Assembly elections — due early next year — was not at all guaranteed,as the allotment of tickets will be made on the basis of winability,on which Congress president Sonia Gandhi will take the final call.

Taking a u-turn from his recent statement wherein he had promised tickets to all sitting party legislators, the former chief minister admitted to factionalism in the party, attributing it to intense lobbying for the tickets. “Since there are several contenders for a ticket,it leads to opposition. But once tickets are allotted, all our rank and file will unite to give a crushing defeat to SAD-BJP,” said Amarinder, while claiming that Congress will form the next government in Punjab with absolute majority.

Speaking to reporters in Mohali,PPCC chief said that though Congress will contest the polls on the development plank, the detailed election manifesto will take care of all issues pertaining to the “misrule” of the present regime and public welfare.

Lashing out at the state government for what he called as “failure on all fronts”,Amarinder said the law and order situation in the state has become worse and there was no accountability in the administration.

Saying there was animosity among leaders over the recently reconstituted PPCC,Amarinder said he will soon call on Sonia Gandhi to bring desired changes in the organisational set up to give due representation to all sections of the society.
