Third seed Gupta advances into semi-final

Third seed Vishal Gupta advanced into the semi-final stage of the snooker category with a 67-37,36-63,51-47,61-31 win over Ravimohan Singh in a quarter-final match of the Seventh Saurabh Khattar Memorial Billiards and Snooker Championship played at Chandigarh Club on Thursday.

Third seed Vishal Gupta advanced into the semi-final stage of the snooker category with a 67-37,36-63,51-47,61-31 win over Ravimohan Singh in a quarter-final match of the Seventh Saurabh Khattar Memorial Billiards and Snooker Championship played at Chandigarh Club on Thursday.

Gupta showed his dominance in parts during the crucial encounter and emerged as the winner in match which stretched to four frames.

Dominating the first frame,Gupta showed his brilliance through out the first frame and easily took the first frame with a margin of 67-37. Gupta though lost his rhythm in the second frame and lost it with margin of 36-63. Singh showed his brilliance in the second frame and won it comfortably.

After two frames,Gupta regrouped his energies and claimed the third frame with a margin of 51-47. The third frame was a closely fought frame as both the players gave their best. Finally,Gupta booked his semi-final berth claiming the fourth and final frame with a margin of 61-31.

Vishal Gupta will now face the winner of the match between Vaibhav Anand and Vineet Khosla.

In billiards,Ajay Gupta stormed into the semi-final stage with a 201-104 win over Vineet Khosla while Ajay Singla also booked his berth into the semi-final stage with a 201-108 win over Vaibhav Anand.
