It couldn’t have come at a better time. With female foeticide on the rise, and the discrimination the fairer sex faces,Vismaad’s ‘Sundri – The Brave Kaur’ comes as a hope. A classic 2D animation by Sukhwinder Singh and his team at Vismaad Studios, this 80 minute full length animation feature takes the viewers through the legendary story of a true warrior princess,Sundri who, when Sikhs were hunted like animals by the Mughals, gave up everything, took shelter in the jungles and fought the tyrants. “She’s a true role model, especially for today’s women and girls who need an inspiration like Sundri,” Sukhwinder gives the reason for the the subject selection. “It’s based on Bhai Vir Singh’s novel by the same name. It’s a piece of history, but he’s given more character and flesh to it,” tells Sukhwinder. Into the promotion and preservation of the sikh religion, tradition, history and culture,Vismaad’s already produced two animated films,Sahibzadey and Banda Bahadur Singh. “However, distributors don’t find them a viable option,so releases on big screen and multiplexes is an uphill task,” rues Sukhwinder who’s taken these films overseas and tied up with cinemas and institutes there for screening. “We’re open to interested institutes and bodies here too for more than the religious bent, these films are educative,” he adds, working on his next,Bhai Taru Singh. “A saint,a noble soul who treated every one equally.” Sundri took almost three years, let’s hope this does not!
