Forging friendships,sharing thoughts & perceptions for the last one year,The Chandigarh Women’s Club grows in spirit & strength

They are booked…and getting many others hooked to the joy of poring over a book,living the lives of some awesome characters,seeing the world through words. The philosophy was simple,to get the girls together,not for a chit-chat on fashion,children,jewellery,but to read. The underlying emotion was to choose a book,read it,understand its essence and share its core with each other,with only serious book lovers allowed entry to this exclusive club. The one hour stipulated is just for this exercise of mental and spiritual simulation,one that Simran Grewal,one of the founding members,looks back with fondness and pride. The Chandigarh Women’s Club has completed a year,and the 20 lovely ladies gathered together to celebrate the special occasion and talk about Chris Cleave’s,The Other Hand. The story of two women,whose lives collide one fateful day,and one of them has to make a terrible choice. Two years later,they meet again and the magic unfolds. “Each chapter ends with a beautiful thought,one you can carry home and it’s really touching,’’ smiles Reva. It’s a constant learning experience and the club is open to only serious book lovers,clarifies Ravi Pandher,one dedicated member. Listing out new,offbeat words,understanding their meanings,discovering issues of the world,getting sensitized about others,the sessions get both creative and absorbing,“for instance,the book gave us a fresh perspective on Nigeria,which many of us didn’t know,’’ says Gagan Dhindsa. The book chosen each month is usually a contemporary book,easily available on the shelves. The club now has 20 members,with poetry recitation also being included at the end of the session,as the members unwind over coffee and cake… Read along!
