The Do-gooder

There are those who say things just because the camera’s rolling and there’s a mike in their face.

Romit Raj believes action speak louder than words

There are those who say things just because the camera’s rolling and there’s a mike in their face. Then there are those, who give more importance to action than words. Telly actor Romit Raj is one them, and when his turn came,he quietly cut a cheque of Rs 25,000 for Dr Kiran Bedi’s Navjyoti foundation to support the cause of girl child, and adopted a girl child from an NGO which goes by the name of Muskaan in Mumbai. “Everyone talks, and promises…I just went one step further and did my bit,” says a humble Romit who did this for Zee TV’s campaign “Save Laali” through its new show AgleJanam Mohe bitiya hi Kijo.

Romit, who has popularized characters like Yuvraaj and Jeet in Zee TV’s Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan and Maayka, feels that the toughest and most important job in the world is that of a homemaker. “If she’s not around, families fall apart, and I feel most marriages end up in a divorce,” says the man who claims to respect women for they are far more “superior than men in all aspects.” “Look at television, women rule on it,” he reasons how and why shows are made for women. “Because women like to see other women living their lives,of mothers,daughters,daughter-in-laws,of going through same difficulties, crying, conniving, taking revenge, bashing up men..they love it,” he says.

A workaholic,Romit also did his bit in films like Hum Dum and Yatra. “I idolise Aamir Khan, and like him,I want to selective, quality work.” Unfortunately, television offers a pretty limited scope! In the meantime, here’s a scoop for all the telly tubs: our boy Romit is going pretty steady with co-actress Shilpa Shinde and is planning to tie the knot within this year! Now,isn’t that dreamy!
