Anuwant Pahwas label Vedic Belle offers the best of fusion wear
For Anuwant Pahwa, managing director of the newly-launched Vedic Belle, the term fusion means a melange of two opposite cultures. His brand too, reflects his ethos bringing together elements from eastern and western traditions and creating a unique identity with them. Though his brand of formal and casual wear for both men and women currently retails out of Delhi,Pahwa has now decided to come closer home. We have tied up with Samsaara for the launch of Vedic Belle in Chandigarh, he informs, dressed in all-black kurta with an embroidered Punk motif on the shoulder and denims. Incidentally,Pahwa has teamed up with designers Pravin Verma and Navin Singh (the two have previously worked with designer brothers Shantanu and Nikhil Mehra) for the latest fashion venture.
Rolling out their spring-summer line at the Samsaara store at Taj Chandigarh, the designers have consciously highlighted traditional Indian handicraft, but in a more contemporary format. The silhouettes are Western, but Indian accents like Kalamkari prints on a short summer dress or embroidered motifs on shirts and jackets are unmistakable, despite being subtle. Theres also an abundant use of Indian fabrics like silks and linen. A short dress, for example, has been styled along with a stole in such a way that it can work both as a dress as well as a kurta, when it is teamed with a churidaar, explains Verma.
The colour palette is vibrant mostly yellows and peaches, and the ubiquitous white. We will also present our wedding line shortly and the lehengas will highlight our signature fusion mix, added Pahwa, pointing at a range of sarees in traditional weaves, with understated embroidery. The lack of bling on them came as a welcome change.
The menswear range brings in kurtas, shirts and jackets in solid colours like coffee brown, black and white. We have worked on detailing on cuffs as well as motifs placed on the seams, explained Verma. While the womenswear line is priced at Rs 7,000 onwards, the mens collection starts at Rs 5,500.
