Committee constituted by V-C to look into feasibility and submit report within 15 days
With complaints and allegations of Panjab University Syndicate meeting proceedings being diluted, twisted and deleted, demand for recording these proceedings on camera was raised by the members. A committee had been recently constituted by the University Vice Chancellor Prof R C Sobti for the implementation of this demand.
Various Senators and Syndics had been raising this issue of tampering of minutes of the meetings not only in respective meetings but also with the authorities. In the recent Syndicate meeting, the demand was again raised citing that since the proceedings are being diluted, twisted and deleted as per the suitability of the authorities, either the proceedings be vidoegraphed or got approved in the next meeting.
The committee constituted by the V-C is chaired by G K Chatrath. As per the V-Cs response, the chairman had been requested to submit the report at the earliest. To which G K Chatrath replied that the report would be submitted within 15 days.
Chatrath said that the committee is still working on the feasibility and its implementation and is yet to submit the report. Getting into its implementation would require a great deal of analysis, thus the committee members are looking for pros and cons, he added.
Some of the Senators had also alleged the minutes of other committee meetings to be tampered with and changed accordingly. In the last Senate meeting,Ashok Goyal raised this issue citing that minutes of committee meeting constituted by the Vice Chancellor had been tampered. I was a member in one of these committees and somehow could not attend two meetings held last year. Thus,I had asked the authorities for the minutes of the meeting, which I am still waiting for, he added.
