Swachh Bharat Abhiyan: Sanitary vending machine, two dustbins installed on Panjab University campus

The system provides collection, removal and responsible disposal of sanitary waste. Users need to insert a Rs 5 coin in the vending machine to take out a napkin.

Under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a sanitary napkin vending machine and two bins for collection and disposal of sanitary waste were installed at the AC Joshi Library of Panjab University on Monday.

The machine has been installed on a trial basis for a month with the cooperation of Panjab University librarian Raj Kumar Gupta and chief executive officer of Washroom Hygiene Concepts Pvt Ltd, Delhi, Sudha Chakrapani.

The sanitary waste disposal unit and liner system incorporates innovative, EPA approved silver ion technology that enhances the elimination of harmful bacteria and odour from the washroom.

Panjab University’s coordinator for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan Seema Kapoor said more such machines and bins will be installed in the girls hostels and all departments of the varsity after the successful trial.

Amanpreet Dhillon, a student of Panjab University, said, “I think this is an excellent initiative taken by the authorities of the university for ensuring cleanliness and it will go a long way in helping the women on the campus.”
