Led by a superb all-round performance from Sumeet Singh (38 and 3 for 34),the Army team entered the final by defeating CM-XI by four wickets in a semi-final match of the Challenger Cricket Cup played at Tau Devi Lal stadium on Friday.
Batting first,CM-XI scored 144 for 6 in 20 overs. Yashpal Singh scored an unbeaten 72 runs to emerge as top scorer. Sumeet bowled well and picked up three wickets.
In reply,the Army team made 148 for 6 in 19.5 overs. Sumeet once again came good with the bat and top scored with 38. He opened with Irfan (31) and blasted the opposition bowlers all over the ground. They managed a run-rate of over 10 in the initial stages. Sarbjeet Singh (33) was the other noteworthy contributor. Karnveer bagged two wickets.
Meanwhile,in the second semi-final,ICL thrashed State Bank of Patiala by five wickets to enter the final. Batting first,State Bank of Patiala scored 102 for 9 in 20 overs. Ravinder Singh top scored with 54 runs. Joginder Sharma and Bablu Kumar picked up two wickets each.
ICL Group of Colleges replied with 106 runs for the loss of five wickets in 17.1 overs. Guntash remained unbeaten on 25,while Rocky Ratta made 23 runs. Mukesh Sharma took two wickets.
