Two bullets were allegedly fired on the Zen car of a Student Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) supporter late on Wednesday night. The incident took place in the Sector-11 market.
Nayagaon-resident Gurvinder Singh alias Sonu Bajwa was inside the car when the incident took place.
The gunshots were allegedly fired by four youths from a car. The incident was an outcome of student rivalry in Panjab University.
Gurvinder had a narrow escape,as one of the bullets hit the bonnet of his car and the second passed through the rear windshield.
According to the complainant,he was going home when the incident took place around 10 pm near Karuna Sadan,in front of the Sector-11 police station.
After the police reached the spot,a visibly shaken Gurvinder reportedly told them that he identified one of the accused as Vicky Brar,a resident of Abohar. He said Vicky was threatening him since the last student elections in which he had actively campaigned for SOPU candidates.
It is yet to be verified whether the bullets were fired near the police station,as the complainant has claimed. Student groups have a history of registering false cases against each other. We have questioned the security guard of the fire station. He has denied any knowledge of the gunshots, SP (Crime) Madhur Verma told Newsline.
