It was a run against corruption,a cause that received huge support from citizens of the city. State Bank Of Patiala organized State Bank of Patiala Chandigarh Marathon here on March 13,the motto of the marathon being 'Run Against Corruption'.

It was a run against corruption,a cause that received huge support from citizens of the city. State Bank Of Patiala organized State Bank of Patiala Chandigarh Marathon here on March 13,the motto of the marathon being ‘Run Against Corruption’. As many as 8,000 people participated in this event under three categories — Full Marathon for 42.195 kms,Half Marathon for 21.097 kms and Fun Run for 5 kms. The marathon was flagged off by Ashok Nayar,Managing Director,State Bank of Patiala. Among the prominent personalities present at the event were renowned sports stars Jeev Milka Singh,Abhinav Bindra and Vijender Singh. Bindra further supported the cause against corruption by running in the ‘Fun Run.’

Over 500 employees of State Bank Of Patiala also participated in the event and all eyes were for 113-year-old Dharam Pal Gudha,who came specially from Meerut to participate in the Fun Run. Top Indian and International athletes from Kenya,Ethopia,US,UK,South Africa…competed in the Full Marathon and Half Marathon for a prize money of six lakh. Full Marathon was won by James Mutna of Kenya,while KC Ramu from the Army won the race in this category among Indian athletes. Bhagwati won the Full Marathon in the women’s category.

The winners of half marathon in International and National category were Elan Singh of Pune and Gautam Tyagi of Delhi respectively. Priyanka Patel of Railways claimed the first position in the women category of Half Marathon.
