The UT excise and taxation department will provide statutory forms online by next week.
The statutory forms like form C, E-1, E-2, F, H and I play vital role in availing the concessional rate under the inter-state transactions. In Chandigarh, where 90 per cent of the goods sold here come from other states, this facility was long required since getting these forms on time was a major issue among the local traders, manufactures and exporters.
Assistant excise and taxation commissioner, Ravinder Kaushik, said, “On an average, the department issues more than 2 lakh statutory forms to local traders. The online facility will be a major relief to our trading community.”
He said the process of availing these forms online is at an advanced staged. “Our backup operation is ready. The UT administrator has also given nod to the amendments in the Central Sales Tax (Punjab) Rules 1957 as applicable to Chandigarh. By amending and substituting for Rule 7 in the Central Sales Tax (Punjab) Rules 1957, the local business community can avail the benefit of online statutory forms,” Kaushik added.
Officials said the forms shall be generated electronically and the copies of these can also be procured from the department.
A trader, Sanjiv Chadha, said this facility had already started in Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. It will be a relief to the local business community here once the statutory forms are made available online.
Online VAT pay in a month
The UT administration is set to roll out online payment of local sales tax (VAT) within a month. At present, this facility is available through State Bank of India, but will be allowed through all the major banks soon.
Kaushik said the online facility would be rolled out within a month with service through all the banks. Charanjeev Singh, the president of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, said, “Traders face problems in paying sales tax, the facility of which is only available in few branches of the State Bank of India. The online payment of VAT was our long pending demand,” he said.
The excise and taxation department collects more then Rs 1,300 crore of VAT from 65 categories of classified goods items. The department recently started e-registration facility for new VAT number. Earlier, getting a new VAT number, also called Tax Identification Number (TIN), was a cumbersome process involving manual filing of application and delays.
An applicant can fill up the form available through the link given the department’s new website, http://www.etdut.com and send the filled application with necessary enclosures.
