Taking a breather from life in the fast lane,Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi is all set to revive some of the lost traditions of music and culture through its music festival,Aai Basant Bahar . We are welcoming the new year with the shades of mustard as this year Basant Panchmi falls in the month of January, informs Akademis chairman,Kamal Tewari.
Complete with classical music and dance recitals,the festival will take place on January 27 and 28 at the Tagore Theatre,Sector 18,Chandigarh. Basant is one of the six major seasons of our country,and is also one of the first major festivals of the year, adds Tewari.
In Indian classical music tradition,Basant is one of the most important raga in the old raga-ragani system. This year the festival is featuring Rakesh Prasanna,disciple of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan,on sarod along with Ustad Bismilla Khan,this years Yuva Puraskar awardee of the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi,while Arushi Mudgal will present Odissi dance. On January 28,Bhuvanesh Komkali,grandson of Pandit Kumar Gandhrava and son of Mukul Shivputra will present classical vocal recital. Bhuvanesh recently composed music for Hindi film Devi Ahilya. As for Mudgal,one of the youngest achievers of the country,in 2008,she was invited by famous dancer Pina Bausch of Wuppertal Tanztheater to perform at the Internationales Tanz Festival in Germany.
Prof M Venkateshkumar,who has been selected for his contribution to Indian classical music for the Sangeet Natak Akademi award this year,will conclude the festival with his classical vocal recital.
