Puneet stars in St Kabir’s win
CHANDIGARH: Riding high on Puneet’s superb brace,Saint Kabir School,Sector 26 crushed Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 23 by 3-0 to enter the final of the under-17 category in Pre-Subroto Football Tournament held at Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 22 on Thursday. Ishaqeev was the other scorer for the team. Meanwhile,in another match,New Public School,Sector 18 rode on Sahil’s lone goal to make their entry into the final after beating Saint Anne’s School,Sector 32. The final match will be played at 9.00 am at GMSSS-22 in Chandigarh on Friday.

UT Sports Dept to award scholarships
CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Sports Department will award sports talent scholarship to the outstanding players who represented Chandigarh in 2009-10 and attained first position in Nationals / State level Tournaments in the recognised games -athletic,archery,badminton,basketball,billiards/snookers,boxing,cricket,canoeing,cycling,football,golf,gymnastics,hockey,handball,judo,kabaddi,kho-kho,tennis,rifle shooting,rowing,sailing/yachting,skating,skiing,swimming,softball,squash,table tennis,taekwondo,volleyball and weightlifting. According to Dr JP Sidhu,Joint Director Sports,scholarships will be awarded to the tune of Rs. 1200,Rs. 960,Rs. 1000,Rs. 600 to first position holders in Mini / Sub-Junior,Junior National and Sub. Junior,Junior and Senior State Inter School conducted by the UT Education Department and Inter College Tournament conducted by the Punjab University. Application forms can be obtained from office of the District Sports Officer U.T.,Chandigarh at Sports Complex,Sector – 42,Chandigarh. The application forms are also available with the principals of colleges,District Education Officer,U.T.,Chandigarh and the secretaries of State Sports Associations and the Director Sports,Punjab University,Chandigarh. The scholarship forms can be deposit latest by September 30. Incomplete and the application received after the due date will not be entertained. The application forms should be deposited in the office of the District Sports Officer,UT,Chandigarh at Sports Complex,Sector – 42,Chandigarh from 9 am to 5 pm on all working days.

23 states for sqay meet
PANCHKULA: The Sqay (Martial Art) Association of Haryana will organise the 11th Sub Junior Sqay National Championship at St Teresa Convent School Panchkula on July 30 and 31. Sandeep Chawla,chairman,International Tour Committee Sqay Federation of India will be the chief guest. Amit Chopra,Principal,St. Teresa Convent School,Surinder Singh Dangi (Joint Secretary Haryana Olympic Association),Ahmed Mir (Grand Master Sqay Federation of India) will also be present there. More than 400 players from 23 states and Union Territories will participate in the nationals,according to Harish Kumar,general secretary,Sqay Federation of Haryana. It may be recalled that the Haryana Olympic Association has given affiliation to the state body.
