Chandigarh boys in tough pool
Chandigarh boys have been placed along with Punjab and Andhra Pradesh in Pool A in the Sub Junior National Basketball Championship at Chittorgarh,Rajasthan. Haryana are in Pool C along with Uttar Pradesh,Manipur and West Bengal. Meanwhile,Chandigarh eves are in Pool A alongside Chattisgarh and Gujarat. Haryana and Punjab girls are in Pool C and Pool D,respectively.

Eshan to lead Chandigarh U-19 team
Eshan Maggo will lead the Chandigarh team during the 2nd V. Hanumantha Rao All India National Under-19 Cricket Championship to be held at Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh) from January 10 to 15.
Team: Eshan Maggo (Captain),Mohit Garg (Vice Captain),Dipanshu Rana,Mukesh Hasti,Varun Kumar,Amandeep Singh,Jagdeep Singh,Kamalpreet,Sanjeev Kumar,Aman Mahajan,Vikramjit,Vipin Khuswah,Deepak Ruhal,Dipanshu Verma,Shashank Kumar and Jatin Kumar Chadha. Sunil Kumar will be the coach,while Sanjay Sharma will be the team manager.

Abhishek stars in MCM win
Abhishek came up with a superb all-round performance (32 and 3 for 16) to steer MCM Academy towards a narrow nine-run win over Greenfield Cricket Academy during the Saint Soldier Trophy at Saint Soldier International School,Sector 28,on Thursday. Batting first,MCM made 135 for 7 in 15 overs. Abhishek top scored with 32 in 26 balls,while Rajat contributed 24 runs. Rishabh picked up 2 for 15. In reply,Greenfield Academy made 126 for 6 in 15 overs. Major Singh made 27 in 18 balls,while Bhav added 25 runs to the team’s total score. Abhishek took 3 for 16. Meanwhile,the teams to book their place in the last four are Bharti Vij Academy,MCM Academy,Greenfield Academy and BTS Academy.

Pawan’s lone goal takes Chandigarh to final
Pawan Deep Singh scored the lone goal as Panjab University,Chandigarh,reached the finals of the All India Inter-University Football Tournament (men) being held at Coimbatore on Thursday. They defeated Punjabi University,Patiala,1-0. They will meet Guru Nanak Dev University,Amritsar,who trounced Kerala University 4-0 to enter the final.

Vishwanathan felicitates Chandigarh player
Archit Aggarwal of Gurukul Global School,IT Park,Chandigarh,could not have asked for anything better than the compliments that he received from World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand after becoming the NIIT Mind Champion of State on Thursday. The 10-year-old overcame Chandigarh Airforce School and Haryana School to become the champion. Archit had also played at zonal level at New Delhi where despite being the youngest participant,he managed to stand runners-up. He defeated Shivangi Mathur of Holy Child School,Bilaspur and drew with Tejas Arora (Champion North Zone) of Amritsar at the zonal level. The youngster got complements from Anand for his talent while playing against him in a friendly match.

Paramveer to take on Nihit in final
MOHALI: Punjab lad Paramveer Bajwa continued to impress as he reached the finals of the boys’ Under-12 category by defeating Sunny Khandare of Maharashtra 6-1,6-2 in a one-sided encounter in the ongoing The British AITA Total Tennis Talent Series being played at The British School,Sector 70,on Thursday.In another semi-final match between Nihit Rawal and the second seed Sumit Pal Singh,it was Chandigarh lad Nihit who got the better of Sumit 6-3,2-6,6-1 in a match that lasted for over one hour and 30 minutes. In the boys’ Under-14 age category,Shrey Gupta of Haryana humbled Faisal Qumar of Rajasthan in straight sets 6-3,6-1 in just 50 minutes. He will face Tegbir Singh Hara of Punjab who snubbed the challenge of Rahul Seth of Chandigarh 2-6,7-5,6-2 in over two hours. Similarly,in the girls’ Under-12 category,top seed Harsimran Kaur of Haryana cruised over Shriya Kalia of HP 6-4,3-6,6-2,while Nimrit Walia upset second seed Prinkle Singh of Jammu and Kashmir in straight sets 6-4,6-0. Harsimran Kaur of Haryana outplayed Mehakdeep Kaur of Chandigarh in straight sets by 6-1,6-2 in the girls’ Under-14 category. She will face Shriya Kalia in the final who prevailed over Ayna Arora of Chandigarh 7-6(5),1-6,6-4.

Cricket trials tomorrow
MOHALI: Trials will be held for the selection of the Mohali District senior cricket team on January 9 at 2 pm at the PCA Cricket Stadium,C-Ground. The team will then take part in the forth-coming Inter District Tournament for FC Mittal Trophy to be organised by Punjab Cricket Association. All the players,either studying or living in Mohali,are eligible for the trials. Players must reach the venue for the trials at 1.30 pm for registration of their names.

Trial for Haryana cricket team on Jan10
PANCHKULA: The trial for the selection of the Haryana team for the 1st All India Senior T20 National League Cricket Tournament to be held at Rohtak from January 21 to 24,will take place on January 10 at 2pm at Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 40,Chandigarh. Football tourney from Jan 18
CHANDIGARH: Tata Tea Jaago Re Soccer Stars Football Tournament organised by High Life Management Calcutta,will be held on January 18 and 19 at the Sector 17 Football Stadium. Players born after September 1,1994 are eligible to take part in the seven-a-side tournament. If any player is found overage,the whole team will be suspended from the tournament. Each team will consist of 10 players,seven as playing and three as substitutes. Rolling substitution will be allowed. There is no entry fee and a school can field two teams. Entries close on January 16.
