Sombir leads SD College boxers’ charge

SD College boxers had a good outing as four of them won their respective bouts during the 34th Chandigarh Senior State Men Boxing Championship held at PML SD School Boxing Ring on Tuesday. Naresh beat Inderjit from PML SD School in 75 kg weight category,while Pawan got the better of Monu of Friends Club in 56 kg weight category. Sandeep defeated Ravi Kumar of GM-33 in 60 kg weight category,while Sombir outclassed Sunil of SD Club-46 in 64 kg weight category. Meanwhile,Sunita of Sikhya School -46 defeated Bakul of Dhanwantri College in the 54 kg weight category during the 10th Senior Chandigarh State Senior Women Boxing Championship. Sangeeta of GMS-18 go the better of Renuka of GCG-11 in the 51 kg weight category. Hardeep of GCG-11 won her 54kg weight category bout against Kriti of SGGS-26.

Inter-District final today
The four-day final of Punjab State Inter-District U-22 Tournament between Patiala and Ludhiana will get underway at PCA Stadium from today. Both the teams has reached the final after carving out wins over Jalandhar and Chandigarh respectively. Patiala will be banking upon players like Himanshu Chawla,Kunwar Raina,Jeevanjot Singh and Perry Goel while Ludhiana will depend upon players like Deepak Bansal and Baltez Singh.

SAI coach bereaved
Hans Raj Mahajan father of SAI badmintion coach SK Mahajan,posted atPanjab University Chandigarh,died after prolong illness at his residence on Sunday afternoon. Eight-year-old Mahajan was cremated at Sector 25 cremation centre. Ex-Asst. Manager in The Tribune Mahajan is survived by three sons Ravi Mahajan,Dr. Vijay Mahajan and SK Mahajan. His uthala will be held on June 2 at Sector 37 Mahajan Bhawanbetween 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm.
