It’s one of the most looked forward to events not only on the institute’s annual calendar but also on the city’s fashion circuit. And it’s time once again for the students of the Inter National Institute of Fashion (INIFD) to showcase their creations put together after a year of hard work. Titled as ‘INIFD Designer Medley ‘09’,this year’s show will feature a bouquet of as many as 17 collections put together by 62 student designers. The final lineup has been judged by Bollywood’s A-list designer Ashley Rebello; Stefania Gulina,a IMB Faculty and designer from Milan,Italy and senior faculty of NID Ahmedabad and internationally acclaimed fashion designer of Lakme India Fashion Week,Anuj Sharma.

“For the students as well as the faculty, the annual show is always an exciting event, specially since leading models of the country will walk the ramp dressed in their creations,” remarked INIFD’s Vice-President (Corporate),Aditi Srivastava. Before the final show rolls out,we got a sneak peek of what the students have put together this Thursday afternoon. “As is the case every year, students are asked to come up with a theme that best inspires their work,” mentions the centre head as the students took to the stage dressed in all their finery.

Stepping on stage first was a ‘Dance of the Peacock’,a collection designed by students Bharti Attri,Ritu Maggu,Seema Chawla,Amrita Gupta and Taranjot Kaur. Pegging the collection as a ‘tribute to our national bird’,the students managed to aesthetically put across the grace and vibrancy of the peacock. “Flattering Indian silhouettes like the sarees, suits and lehengas in a palette of rich emeralds, true teals, velvety brown as well as the proverbial peacock blue is what we have put together in fabrics such as georgettes, satins, net and velvet,” mentioned the designers. If that wasn’t vibrant enough, the team of Anjana Chaudhary,Piranha Chandra,Poonam,Avneet Kaur,Nitish Kumar,Neetu Sharma,Renu Sharma and Pankaj Prabhakar presented ‘A raga of colours’. True to its name, the collection put forth a riot of colours with Rajasthan as a backdrop. That was followed up with an innovative line much inspired by the fascinating folds of Origami. Designed by Shraddha Narang and Rashmi Kumari,it gave an interesting twist to garments styled under the theme. Folding techniques like squash fold, sink fold, valley fold and mountain fold have been extensively used by the students to create forms like lily flowers, fan folds, button flowers used to embellish the garments, hats, headgears, clutches and other accesories. Speaking of which, the show will also feature creative props specially designed by as many as 12 interior design students at the institute. The other themes that the students have put together include ‘Mirror Mirage’,a maze of reflections,‘The Masked Enigma’,‘Inayat-e-zayn’ inspired by Mughal art and more. Here’s looking forward to the finale.
