Singing competition held at Mount Carmel

Swar Udgam’,an inter-school Hindustani classical vocal and geet/ gazal competition was organised today at Mount Carmel School,Sector 47-B,Chandigarh,in the school premises. The classical vocal competition was conducted for students of Classes VI to VIII and the geet/ ghazal competition was conducted for the students of Classes IX & X. Students from various schools of the city participated in this competition.

The day’s programme started with a welcome speech by Mansimar Kaur,a student of Class IX-A of the school. After this the students of the participating schools presented their items for the competition. Yaman,Shudh Sarang,Bhopali,Bhairav and Madhuvanti were some of the ragas on which the participants sang. The host school did not take part in the competition as a matter of policy that in any inter-school competition hosted by Mount Carmel,the students from the school would not compete. The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Dawn James,a student of Class IX-A of the school and then the national anthem.
