The Sikh are “sui generis”, a distinct entity, which reflects their originality and uniqueness, said Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami on Sunday while responding to the statement of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat that “all Indians are Hindus”.

The SGPC president was participating in the inauguration ceremony of the new Darbar Hall at Gurdwara Gurusar Sahib Kaunke, Jagraon.

On the occasion, Dhami said that every day the RSS chief gives a fatwa (decree) to every person living in India to be a Hindu to satisfy his mind. He said that these people who call India a Hindu nation should read the history of India and especially that of the Sikh once. The SGPC president said that not all people living in India are Hindus.

“The Sikhs are sui generis, a distinct entity, have their own unique character. India does not belong to any one religion. The Sikhs always stand for the country according to the traditions of their faith. The contribution of Sikhs in every crisis cannot be underestimated. I advise the RSS chief to refrain from making controversial statements,” said Dhami.
