Tales from The Valley

Studio One Eleven presents ‘Loss…’ a video and photography exhibition on Kashmir by Saadiya Kochar. ‘Loss…’ is a video project,including a movie and an exhibition that captures the anguish and longing of the people of Kashmir. The event is divided into three parts,encapsulating stories of the Muslims,the Pandits and the last one of the artist visiting the valley. Record Breaker

Vidha Lal,a renouned Kathak Dancer will be performing at the India Council for Cultural Relations Horizon Series. Lal,who is a disciple of Guru Gitanjali Lal of the Jaipur Gharana,is also an ‘A’ grade artist of Delhi Doordarshan. She recently won the Guiness Book of World Records for the most number of spins (103) in 2011. She performs on December 28,from 7 pm to 8 pm,at Azad Bhawan Auditorium,IP Estate.

Living their Art

Seven alumni with physical disabilities from the Society for the Education of the Crippled have put together an art show called ‘Living Their Dreams’. The show will feature a collection of paintings based on themes like Buddha,horses,portraits and scenery. It will be on display at the Jehangir Art Gallery,Kala Ghoda,on June 8 and June 9 between 6 pm and 9 pm. Contact: 9769273108.

The Dance of Orissa

Mayurbhanj Chhau,the traditional dance from Orissa,is derived from the martial craft,mythology,gaits of birds and animals. This and a contemporary form of dance will be performed by Santosh Nair and Sadhya Unit of Performing Arts. The show,Roots,will be on at the Experimental Theatre,NCPA,Nariman Point,on May 30 at 7 pm.

Tribal Lights

After spending 18 years in India,Magali Couffon de Trevros is still exploring new lands. She was welcomed by different tribes of Orissa and went from witnessing a tribal festival in Koraput to discovering village life. As a child,Yogi Bakshi was constantly fighting ailments and saw art as a way to escape into another world. “My journey through life has not been a bed of roses,though my paintings have a lot of them,” says the 40-year-old,who captures flowers in media like coloured pencils,dry and oil pastels,charcoal and water pencils. Music for Benefit

Revisit songs like Pal,Tu Aashiqui Hain,Tadap Tadap Ke,and more as KK sings at the Hindustan Antibiotics Ground,Pimpri,on June 1. The concert is being organised by The Nest,a social initiative by the Mumbai Diocese of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church in Pune. Proceeds go to retired professionals and orphaned girls. The concert begins at 6.30 pm.
