The directive takes immediate effect and will remain in force for two months. (File Photo)The Shimla district administration has made it mandatory for employers to register migrant workers and individuals arriving from other states in search of jobs with the police.
Employers must complete the registration process at the police station under whose jurisdiction their business falls. The order, issued by District Magistrate Anupam Kashyap, states that violations will attract punitive action under Section 223 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
The directive also applies to individuals arriving in Shimla for self-employment. Such persons must register their details with the local police station on their own.
Sources stated that the move comes in light of the ongoing Himachal Saras Mela 2024 and the upcoming Winter Carnival, scheduled from December 25 to January 5, 2025, at The Ridge in Shimla.
The order specifies that no employer, contractor, or trader in the district shall engage migrant workers for casual or informal jobs, services, or contract labour unless the workers’ details, along with passport-sized photographs, are registered with the respective Station House Officer (SHO).
Furthermore, individuals arriving in Shimla district must not engage in self-employment, informal trade, or job-seeking activities without first informing the concerned SHO.
The directive takes immediate effect and will remain in force for two months.
