Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) today called off its agitation planned for Wednesday as Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) today lifted the ban on its employees to wear kirpan near the aircraft at Sri Guru Ram Das International airport here.
The CISF,which had already promised that they were finding some solutions to the issue, have allowed the employees to carry the smaller kirpan, which is the religious symbol of the Sikhs, near the aircraft.
Sikh Students Federation (Mehta) district head Amardeep Singh Dhot had earlier protested at the airport and the SGPC,which had sought the ban be lifted had planned a major agitation at the airport which was called off after the CISFs decision. They thanked the authorities for the timely action and said that the authorities must give credence to the religious rights of the citizen before imposing such restrictions.
