Seven suspected cases have tested positive for swine flu in PGI. One of the victims is from Chandigarh,one from Haryana and five from Punjab.
An 8-year-old girl,who studies in Ryan International School,has tested positive. The school has suspended Class 3 G for a week.
According to health officials,the victim is daughter of a doctor couple,who live in Sector 48 in the city. Her condition is reportedly stable.
Health officials said the number of cases was showing an upward trend.
The second victim is a nurse working at PGI,who lives in Mohali. She is reportedly the wife of a doctor in Fortis Hospital and is eight months pregnant. Another victim from Mohali is a 13-year-old girl,who lives in Sector 67.
Other victims from Punjab include mother of newborn twins. She had delivered twin boys at PGI a fortnight ago one of them is already affected with the virus. Also,a 55-year-old man from Nawashahr and an 18-year-old boy from Yamunanagar,Haryana,have tested positive.
A two-member team of the Union Health Ministry,meanwhile,visited Chandigarh on Friday to assess the swine flu situation. The officials were reportedly told that the city had a detection rate of 30 per cent. The officials said the situation was under control and the trend of increase in cases was uniform throughout the country.
