Man dies in motorcycle collision; 62-year-old killed by car

Two persons died in two different road accidents in the city,the police said. At around 10 pm on Wednesday,Sanjeev Kumar (31) was heading for his Nayagaon home on a motorcycle when he collided with another motorcycle in Sector 25.

“It was a head-on collision resulting in critical injuries to both. The two,Sanjeev Kumar and Ajay Kumar,were shifted to hospital where doctors declared Sanjeev ‘brought dead’,” informed police post 24 In-Charge Sub-Inspector Harminder Singh.

Police said that Sanjeev’s body was kept at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research,(PGIMER) mortuary and the post mortem would be conducted on Friday. “His identity could be ascertained only this afternoon. Sanjeev was working with Godrej till recently and had left the job some 15 days ago,” said Harminder Singh said. Sanjeev is survived by his wife and a one-year-old daughter.

The cops at the Sector 11 police station have registered a case under Section 279/ 304-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Ajay,a resident of Sector 25,who is being treated at the Government Multi- Specialty Hospital,Sector 16 (GMSH-16).

In another road accident,a 62-year-old vendor was killed when he was hit by a Swift near the bus stand in sector 43 at around 10.30 pm on Wednesday. The police said that Madan Lal of Kajheri,Chandigarh,was critically injured when he was hit by the swift (number PB-07-W-5965). They said the car was being driven by Parminder Singh,an agriculturist from Tanda Hoshiarpur,Punjab.

The injured person was immediately shifted to the GMSH-16 where he succumbed to his injuries. Parminder Singh was arrested from the spot and a case registered in the Sector 36 police station under Section 279/ 304A IPC.

Parminder was later bailed out in court. Madan Lal’s post mortem will be conducted on Friday.
