Seminar on positive parenting held

A seminar on positive parenting for parents of children in the age group of 3 to 8 years was held at Shemrock Senior Secondary School on Saturday.

A seminar on positive parenting for parents of children in the age group of 3 to 8 years was held at Shemrock Senior Secondary School on Saturday. Child psychologist Dr Deepali Sharma was the main resource person.

She deliberated on some common behavioural and emotional problems that young children display. “Behaviour such as throwing temper and tantrums,excessive shyness,lying,sibling rivalry,bed wetting,having fears,phobias and academics related problems can be easily solved with a little professional help,” she said.

Dr Sharma said that parents should observe perseverance and get down to a child’s thinking level to understand him or her better. The seminar also relied on easy to use activities that could be replicated at home. “We should aim at raising a happy and positive child,” she suggested. The workshop outlined effective strategies and disciplinary techniques required to instil good habits in children. The need to spend quality time with children and making an emotional investment in them from a young age was emphasised upon. ens
