A head constable and constable of the Sector-36 police station were suspended on Saturday for their alleged role in the Sector-35 shooting incident in which a youth sustained injuries a week ago. Head Constable Jaspal Singh, posted as the seizure room incharge of the Sector-36 police station, and Constable Surjit Singh, beat constable of the Sector-35 market, were caught on the wrong foot after the matter came to light on Friday when the victim filed a complaint with the police. According to the police,Jaspal Singh had released the .32 bore pistol of one Gurpreet Singh Chahal which was seized when he was booked in a firing incident in a coffee shop around one-and-a-half years ago. Jaspal released the pistol despite being aware that the case was still on, officials said. Constable Surjit Singh,on the other hand, had tried to cover up the entire shooting incident by taking no action. In fact,he is said to have misguided senior authorities by claiming that no such incident had taken place in the market. The two accused were produced in the court on Saturday and sent to two days police remand for further interrogation.
