In June this year,a group of students from the city-based Vivek High School journeyed through Europe for a 17-day travelling photography workshop. Once there, all 13 of them were guided by mentors Francois Cleroux,a Vancouver- based professional photographer and member of the Canadian Association of Photography Art,and Navneet Saxena, the schools photography coach, to capture a diverse range of thoughts through their cameras. The result is View from the Third Eye,a group exhibition comprising 90 photographs clicked in six magnificent countries Germany,Austria,Switzerland,Italy,Vatican City and France and are being showcased as part of Students Founders Week. The exhibition features myriad compositions, which have been clicked and edited by the students using a variety of techniques, and is a result of the photography training and learning provided to students throughout the year. This academic year has been full of travel and new learning for the budding shutterbugs. The three workshops conducted for the students in Europe,Kasauli and Singapore were a chance for them to celebrate fine art and commercial photography apart from offering insight into the range of processes and approaches employed in this art form. According to the students, stepping out with their cameras was an enriching experience, with not a single dull moment. Cleroux, who conducts workshops all over Canada and trains students in the creative aspects of photography, along with Saxena, converted cafes at various hotels and the bus into a classroom and taught the students about panning, stitching, editing and other tools essential for photography. Night-long discussions about various combinations of aperture and ISO setting, accompanied by knowledge about new techniques kept the students motivated throughout the journey. Meeting new people, choosing locales for photo sessions, bonding with friends, getting a constant feedback from our teachers and now this exhibition, its a completely wonderful experience, says one of the exhibitors. View from the Third Eye puts forth the depth, albeit amateur,of the subjects on display. The aspirants have taken the lessons to heart and created a dialogue between the camera and their muse, says PK Singh,Principal of Vivek High. The exhibition is on display at Punjab Kala Bhavan,Sector 16,till November 1
