Sanjiv Kumar acquitted

The co-accused,Kiran Mishra, was also acquitted on Wednesday.

Acquitted from the seventh charge sheet in the alleged text book scam from the special CBI court of Vimal Kumar, the 1985- batch IAS officer of Haryana cadre Sanjiv Kumar on Wednesday breathed a sigh of relief. The co-accused,Kiran Mishra, was also acquitted on Wednesday. The tainted officer was recently convicted in the infamous JBT Scam along with former Haryana Chief Minister,Om Prakash Chautala.

The seventh chargesheet concerned a cheque for purchase of an LCD screen and a projector system which was allegedly falsely issued by Kumar. “Both Sanjiv Kumar and Kiran Mishra were acquitted on grounds of benefit of doubt. The CBI was unable to make a case against the IAS officer and Mishra who retired as a district project coordinator for the project,” said the counsel for the two accused,Deepak Vadehra and Mandeep Singh Khillan.

The IAS officer was chargesheeted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the year 2000. It was alleged that Kumar along with 13 others had allegedly floated irregular tenders for printing of textbooks during his tenure as a project director of Haryana Prathmik Shiksha Pariyojana Parishad (HPSPP).

In the same case,CBI had filed seven different chargesheets against the IAS officer and others. Out of all the seven cases, the accused was discharged in six cases due to lack of evidence and was acquitted from the seventh case on Wednesday.

Kumar in his statement had said that he was falsely implicated in the case. “When the cheque for an LCD screen and a projector system was issued,I was not posted in the HPSPP,” he had stated.

Good wishes

IAS officer Sanjiv Kumar while leaving the premises of the Chandigarh District court wished the best of health to Kiran Mishra. “This is just the beginning of good time. By God’s grace,we will succeed in future as well. You take care of yourself and get well soon,” Kumar told Mishra.
