With the temperature soaring and the sultry conditions making it difficult to keep the energy level up,it was amazing, almost refreshing,to see players at the CLTA courts giving their 100 percent, oblivious of the external conditions. What mattered to them was victory, and nothing else. Sagar Bains shone through as the perfect example for other challengers as he managed to win both his boy’s Under-14 and -18 singles matches in the CLTA-AITA Talent Series tennis tournament for boys and girls Under-14 and Under-18,at the CLTA complex on Tuesday.
For the second day running in the main draw,Sagar played a picture perfect game and registered clinical victories. He was specially impressive in his 6-1,6-2 victory against Aditya Pratap in the boy’s Under-14 category. Keeping his intensity intact,Sagar made Aditya work hard for every point, and played some delectable shots in the first set which he went on to win 6-1. Sagar continued to press hard and maintained his supremacy on the hard court. He won the second set 6-2 to move into the quarter-finals. Meanwhile,in the boys’ Under-18 category,Sagar defeated fancied Rohit Dhiman 6-2,6-4. Dhiman,a trainee of Total Tennis Academy and one of the favourites to win the title, ran into a rampaging Sagar and lost the first set 2-6. He displayed a better game in the second set,but failed to stop Sagar to move into the quarter-finals after losing the second set 4-6.
Also,Fatehdeep Singh,a former trainee of CLTA,maintained his winning form and decimated Parnav Suri 6-0,6-4. After giving a crushing blow to Parnav in the first set, which he won 6-0,Fatehdeep committed some errors in the second set,but had enough fire left in his cylinders to overcome his opponent and move into the quarterfinals by winning the set 6-4. In another boy’s Under-18 match,Ranjeet Singh outplayed Samrat Rana 6-1,6-3 while Digvijay Naruka got the better of Yuvraj Singh 6-2,7-5. Similarly,in the boy’s Under-14 category,Karandeep Singh also maintained his winning momentum and outclassed Ramanjot Singh 6-1,6-3 in an easy encounter.
In the girl’s section,Seerat Sidhu lost both the matches in the girl’s Under-14 and -18 categories. She lost her Under-14 match to Seerat Pannu 1-6,1-6 while she went down fighting to AashimaGarg 4-6,2-6 in the girl’s Under-18 category. Nimrat Walia and Aarushi Kakkar won their respective Under-14 matches. Nimrat defeated Taru Ahluwalia 6-1,6-1 while Aarushi humbled Komaljeet Singh 6-1,6-0.
