The final matches in both the boys and girls’ categories turned out to be lop-sided affairs but it was the semi-final encounter between Rubani Ahluwalia and eighth seed Aastha Malhotra in the girls’ Under-14 category that kept the spectators spell-bounded. Despite fightback from Aastha, unfancied Rubani managed to scrape through to the final after upsetting Aastha,in the AITA Talent Series tennis tournament, jointly organised by Manav Mangal School,Panchkula, and Ideal Tennis Academy,at Manav Mangal School,Sector 11,on Friday.

Rubani played extremely well to claim the first set,6-4,but the eighth seed made a good comeback and clinched the second set,4-6. It was anybody’s game in the final set but Rubani managed to unsettle Aastha and kept her nerves to emerge triumphant by winning the final set,6-4.

However,in the final, she could not pose a challenge to third seed Seerat Sidhu and lost 6-1,6-2 in a lop-sided encounter.

The boy’s final also turned out to be one-sided affair as top seed Sabrang Sandal outclassed Sahishnu Sharma,6-3,6-2,to win the title.
