Ruthless Fatehdeep storms into final

13-year-old Fatehdeep Singh’s name has not been a regular in the U-18 category. Yet the Chandigarh lad has been doing well in the U-18 category and the youngster continued his fine form with a 2-6,6-4,6-4 win over top seed Vishwesh Sinha to rally into the final of the boys’ U-18 singles’ category in the AITA Championship Series Tennis Tournament being played at CLTA courts on Thursday.

The match began on a slow note for the Chandigarh lad as he lost the first set with a 2-6 margin. Vishwesh was leading by 4-1 in the second set before rain disrupted the match. The break meant that Fatehdeep Singh regrouped his energies and came back into the match strongly. Singh claimed the second set with a 6-4 margin. The third set saw both the players fighting hard and they were tied at 4-4 at one stage. Singh broke Sinha’s serve in the ninth game in the third set to take a 5-4 lead before claiming the tenth game to won the third and final set with a 6-4 margin.

In the other semi-final encounter in the same category,Suraj Beniwal ended the challenge of Dhruv Aggarwal with a 6-3,4-6,6-1 win. Beniwal claimed the first set with a 6-3 margin before losing the second set with a 4-6 margin. Beniwal claimed the third and final set with a 6-1 margin to storm into the final.

It was easy going for Vishu Prasad as he ended the challenge of Dheeranush Bhatti with a 6-1,6-2 win to rally into the final of the boys’ U-14 singles’ category. Prasad claimed the first set with a 6-1 margin before claiming the second set with a 6-2 margin to march into the final. In the other semi-final encounter,Sachin Kumar scored a 6-3,6-3 win to book his berth into the final. Kumar claimed the first set with a 6-3 margin before claiming the second set with an identical margin.

In the girls’ U-14 singles’ category,Devanshi Bhimjyani stormed into the final with a 6-0,6-1 win over Victoria Chahal. Bhimjyani claimed the first set with a 6-0 margin before claiming the second set with a 6-1 margin.
