Residents protest garbage disposal

The residents of Dadumajra once again held a protest against the dumping of garbage at the dumping ground.

The residents of Dadumajra once again held a protest against the dumping of garbage at the dumping ground. The residents expressed concerns at the increasing heaps of garbage and rued the lack of action being taken by the officials on the issue.

The residents had held a protest three days ago where trucks carrying garbage were not allowed to go to the dumping ground. A meeting was held on Wednesday to discuss the problem. However,the residents rued that there was no difference in the conditions and thereafter a protest was held.

The issue of the garbage heaps at the dumping ground has been raised repeatedly. The Municipal Corporation is looking for a new place to dump garbage. With Chandigarh being landlocked,there is a paucity of land for the purpose.

The residents stated that with garbage being dumped at the dumping ground,the people in the area were facing the threat of contracting diseases. Area councillor Kamlesh has time and again demanded that medical check-ups of the residents needs to be conducted,which would reveal the condition of the residents.

A meeting of the officials has been called next week to look into all possible solutions to the problem.
