Seeing no progress in the repair of a wall at S D College in Sector 32,which collapsed after a storm two months ago,the students council went on a hunger strike on Thursday.
Alleging the college authorities had not taken any action to construct the boundary wall, which caused the death of a 21-year-old student,a council member,Rachit, said,We gave in writing that the wall needs construction as soon as possible. We were given assurance the new boundary wall will be constructed in a week. But it has been over two months and nothing has been done. The students also alleged the principal was supposed to give the report status on the issue, but it had been delayed no reason.
However, the principal of the college,Bhushan Kumar Sharma, said,It is completely a college issue. We are not delaying any process. We are aware of the issue and have floated a tender for the construction of the boundary wall. November 8 is the last day to close the tender. We will get a contractor soon. The students council says they will continue their hunger strike till the wall is constructed.
