People holding registered will in Mohali may finally get relief from the ongoing hassles of property transfers at the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA).

Despite having valid, registered wills, citizens were being forced to run from pillar to post as GMADA officials insisted on calling all legal heirs before processing transfers, creating unnecessary delays.

Now this bureaucratic roadblock is expected to end.

Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh, after receiving multiple complaints from residents and property dealers, raised the matter with top housing department officials.

Following the discussions, Singh has assured that new, simplified guidelines will be issued within a week, allowing property transfers on the basis of registered wills without the need to summon all legal heirs.

“These days, many people register their wills before the tehsildar, and they are legally valid. Despite that, GMADA was creating hurdles in the transfer of properties, which is completely unjustified,” Singh told The Indian Express.

The MLA said that GMADA officials had recently imposed a new condition requiring the presence of all heirs even in cases with registered wills.

This led to repeated delays and frustration for the applicants.

“I’ve taken up the issue directly with the Additional Secretary (Housing). Necessary amendments will be made in the current rules so that registered wills are honoured as before,” Singh added.

According to the MLA, the revised orders will be issued within a week, ensuring that people no longer face unnecessary complications while transferring inherited property.

This issue had been a long-standing grievance for many in Mohali. The increasing procedural hurdles around property transfers had sparked resentment among the public.

However, the MLA’s intervention has rekindled hope that the matter will be resolved in the coming days.
