Governor of Punjab and UT Administrator Shivraj V Patil on Saturday sought a liberal release of Central funds for ongoing projects in city. Speaking at the 55th meeting of the National Development Council in New Delhi,Patil said that Chandigarh has undertaken ambitious projects aimed at inclusive growth which called for flow of funds. He also demanded an expeditious settlement of the issue of Chandigarhs share in the BBMB,besides restoration of unallocated quota of nine percent of power and early sanction of additional posts to make good the shortage of staff in critical areas. He said that Chandigarh faced acute shortage of manpower, especially in critical fields of health, education, power and other public-oriented services. Pointing out that a large number of cases for creation of posts were pending with different ministries,he impressed upon the Central Government to expedite finalisation of recruitment rules to facilitate early filling up of sanctioned posts. One of the major areas of concern in the health sector is non-sanction of posts of doctors and paramedical staff. We have taken some noteworthy initiatives to provide quality health services to people, which need sufficient number of doctors and staff, Patil added. Referring to the Metro Project,he said the UT Administration had prepared a Comprehensive Mobility Plan for the entire region and that it would soon hand over the project report to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
