A former sadhvi has accused Gurmeet Ram Rahim, the head of Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda,of rape before the CBI court. She has also alleged that Dera members had put pressure on her to sign on affidavits and not to depose before the CBI. She said this while appearing before the court as a witness in an ongoing rape case against Rahim.
The sadhvi used to teach at Deras school and stay at the girls hostel in the Dera premises. Sadhvis used to guard the girls hostel as well as the Gufa where the Dera head used to reside on a rotational basis. In September 1999,the sadhvi was on guard duty from 8 pm to 12 am. Around 10 pm,Rahim allegedly called her inside the Gufa and raped her. He also reportedly threatened her not to tell anyone about the incident.
The next day,she left the Dera and told her parents also Dera followers about the incident. But it was not reported to the police. In May 2000,the victim got married and told her husband about the incident. The matter was then taken to the police.
When the incident was being investigated, the victims family started receiving phone calls from the Dera, asking the sadhvi not to depose before the CBI.
The victims in-laws were also Dera followers. According to the sadhvi, she and her husband were once taken to the Dera by her father-in-law to sign affidavits. But as the papers were not ready, they were called the next day. However, she and her husband decided not to sign and left home.
They wrote to the CBI to provide them security. However, following this, the couple left without informing the security guards attached to them for their protection. The sadhvi also told the court that it was incorrect that the CBI or Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee had provided for her stay and employment.
The court will hear the case next on July 30. Two other cases the murders of Ranjit Singh murder and Ram Chander Chhattarpati,in which the Dera head is an accused will be heard in July.
