Rama,Sita and an army of monkeys and demons have travelled to the UK,where Playbox Theatre, based in Warwick,is recreating the Ramayana. The play explores the “love of Rama and Sita” as they face exile and a “dangerous journey into the forest of southern India”. Playbox Theatre has been working with the youth for 25 years. Director Stewart McGill said in a statement,“Like Shakespeare, there are tales, which although originate in far countries, belong to us all. With Ramayana,I wanted Playbox Theatre to respect the origins yet reawaken the story in our own style for young audiences. Working with the Fashion Department at Mid-Warwickshire College has given the show a beautiful, contemporary look and we hope everyone will discover Ramayana as a story we can all enjoy regardless of our cultural background.” Performances were held from April 11-14.
