PUTA to protest delay in CCL implementation

A PUTA representative said the decision to hold the agitation was taken in the executive committee’s meeting held on May 1.

To express their displeasure against the delay in the implementation of the Child Care Leave (CCL),members of the Panjab University Teachers Association’s (PUTA) executive committee will sit on a dharna in front of the vice-chancellor’s office from 11 am to 12 pm on Thursday.

A PUTA representative said the decision to hold the agitation was taken in the executive committee’s meeting held on May 1.

“It is pertinent to mention here that the provision of CCL is very much part of the UGC regulations,2010. These regulations have already been adopted in toto in the University Syndicate and Senate. The Punjab government and Central Government have already implemented the scheme and the female employees are availing of two years of leave meant for looking after the minor children in the family,” said PUTA officials.

The representatives have also pointed out that over 50 per cent of the faculty members in the University are eligible for availing the leave. “In the recently held Syndicate meeting a PUTA representative had persuaded the authorities for taking up this issue on an urgent basis.

“However, the issue has been postponed. It is worth mentioning here that the scheme has mandate even for the non-teaching employees and their leadership has already expressed solidarity for the cause,” said Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) president Akshaya Kumar.
