Punjabi singer Surinder Shinda dies at 70

Some of the popular songs of the legendary singer were ‘Putt jattan de’, ‘Jatt jeona morh’, ‘Balbiro Bhabhi’, etc. His album ‘Dulla Bhatti’ was a great hit.

Punjabi singer Surinder Pal Dhammi, known as Surinder Shinda, died of prolonged illness at Ludhiana’s Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) Wednesday. He was 70.

Shinda, described as the ‘grandfather of Music on Console’, was admitted to DMCH on July 15, and had been on a ventilator since then. DMCH principal Dr Sandeep Puri, who treated the singer, said that he was in a critical state at the time of admission and had slipped into a coma, and the condition got aggravated by kidney failure.

“He had been operated on intestinal perforation sometimes back in some other hospital after which he got unwell and had got pneumonia. When he came to us on July 15, he was already in a critical situation and was on a ventilator. …he died Wednesday morning at 6.45 am due to all the associated reasons,” the doctor said.
