Punjab top cop held accepting bribe

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested Assistant Inspector General of Police P S Sandhu,a Punjab Police Service (PPS) officer,while accepting bribe.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested Assistant Inspector General of Police P S Sandhu,a Punjab Police Service (PPS) officer,while accepting bribe. The CBI had earlier arrested Sandhu in the Moga sex scandal case.

Sandhu,who is currently posted as AIG (Internal Vigilance Cell) at the Punjab Police Headquarters,was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from Nishant Sharma former office bearer of Shiv Sena (Hindustan) at Cafe Coffee Day in Sector 28.

Accordign to sources,several cheating and fraud cases are pending against Sharma. He allegedly used to show vehicles to buyers and take advance from them,but he never sold the vehicles. He never returned the money as well. Six cases have been registered against him in Kharar sub-division and one in Phillaur. Some cases are also pending in Haryana and Rajasthan.

A few months ago,Sharma lodged a complaint against Phillaur DSP Raj Balwinder Singh Marar (son of Darshan Marar,former Shiromani Akali Dal MLA) to SP (IVC) Balwant Kaur,saying that he had demanded a bribe to get the cases against him dropped. Later,Sandhu reportedly told him that he can either be booked for lodging a false complaint against the DSP or he can get his cases sorted out by paying a bribe.

Following this,one Pawan Gupta introduced Sharma to Sandhu. The deal was struck at Rs 3 lakh. After an initial payment of Rs 1 lakh to Sandhu,Sharma was supposed to handover another Rs 1 lakh to him on Tuesday. However,he brought only Rs 50,000,as he was reportedly not satisfied with Sandhu handling his complaints. According to sources,Sharma approached CBI,which in turn laid a trap and arrested Sandhu while accepting the bribe.
