Sometimes an incubation period gives an issue a better perspective, for then you are dealing with it from a distance. Exactly what writer Bubbu Tir did, when she revisited her 50 Punjabi short stories shes written for Jagbani, which now come together as a 200-page book published by Unistar and titled Ek Baat Main Paawan. The stories appeared in a regular column for years in Jagbani,I went back to the stories and they made so much more sense, they had a message,a conclusive and positive ending. The idea of compiling these in a book, says the city-based writer came from the readers not only in India, but also abroad, for these stories capture the pulse of the people, especially Punjabis. The Punjabi story did not have an urban face,it did not deal with contemporary issues, dilemmas and problems faced by Punjabis today and my strong point was my eye for detail, Bubbu communicated with ease in the language of the people and specific problems of regions. Doaba,Malwa,Majha…I told stories that dealt with issues like drugs, crime, migration, politicians games and these were all real to life,I guess I could fill some of the vacuum in Punjabi writing, Bubbu says English has helped her approach to be cosmo, but the sprit is rooted. The stories have been printed in newspapers abroad and Bubbu agrees that in a book, these look more responsible and also bear a stamp. Many readers because of my name think I am a man and the feedback letters are touching and honest and it feels good that you have touched someone with your words and probably made a small, but significant difference to their lives, smiles Bubbu.
