PU makes entrance exam compulsory for Phd aspirants

In a significant move,the Fellows at the meeting decided that PU Registrar Dr S S Bari,who retired this month,will continue till another appointment is made.

The members also took serious note of the allegations against Prof Manjit Singh,who reportedly set the same question paper for MA sociology as the one that was set in 2006. The Fellows said that the professor concerned should be debarred from setting and question paper in the future. Vice-Chancellor Prof R C Sobti,however,deferred the item saying inquiry needs to be done in the matter before taking any further action in the matter.

The Syndicate also held that actions should be initiated against G G M College,Ludhiana,for admitting students to BCom-I without seeking affiliation from Panjab University. Consequently,it was decided that forms of those students admitted by the college in the first year,would not be accepted.

On the procedure for appointment of readers,the members said more clarification is needed on the process. The appointment of all the eight readers has,therefore,been put on hold and the Fellows have decided to write to the Punjab government for clarification on the rules of appointment.

All the decisions approved at the recently held meeting of the board of finance were also approved by the Syndicate.
