Around 41,000 students from the tricity and the neighbouring states of Punjab,Haryana and Himachal Pradesh appeared for the Common Entrance Test held by Panjab University on Sunday.

The examination allows admission into the university’s graduate courses in the medical, pharmaceutical, dental and different science streams. Around 18 centres were set up for the entrance test, which received a mixed response from students,in the university.

While students found the Physics (Honours) examination a tough nut to crack, the generally dreaded subject of Chemistry scored a hit with students this time. Terming the paper as “student friendly”,Kunal Puri felt the only dark spot was Organic Chemistry.

“The question paper wasn’t tough, but tricky. Rather than writing mugged answers, the paper required us to answer the questions smartly; the examination called for presence of mind rather than cramming,” said Akriti Sharma,a candidate.

In the Mathematics paper, students found statistics particularly difficult. “Integration and differentiation were a breeze but statistics had me stumped as the calculations required a lot of time. I wasted quite a bit of time rechecking the calculations,” said Deepti Garg,a candidate.

Expressing satisfaction with the examination process,PU Controller of Examinations,Professor A K Bhandari, said no untoward incident or cheating cases were reported.
