Police Training Academy demands recognition

Maharja Ranjit Singh Punjab Police Training Academy,one of the oldest police training institutes of the nation.

Maharja Ranjit Singh Punjab Police Training Academy,one of the oldest police training institutes of the nation,has now demanded recognition for being one of the nodal training centers of police dog breeding and training. Furthermore,to tide over the financial crunch staring it in the face,the Academy has urged the Government to charge 50 per cent of the capitation fees from trainees of other states and the nation.

Maharaja Punjab Police Training Academy Director Rohit Choudhry put forth these demands at the passing out parade held on Friday. The parade was presided over by Punjab DGP P S Gill. Apart from the trainees there were 48 post-graduates and 158 graduates who have acquired degrees in MCA,MA,BSc and BA.

In his annual report,Chaudhry also urged the government to rethink its policy of calling in staff for law and order duties which dampen the effectiveness of the training programmes. Addressing the gathering,Gill remarked that the state police are preparing for the challenges of a new millennium after successfully defeating the nefarious designs of unfriendly neighbours,left wing extremists and drug cartels. Besides this,it is also in the process of acquiring new technologies and skills to become an important partner in the developmental process of the country. The DGP took the salute from the passing out parade of 464 woman police constables.

The police chief informed that the state police were in the process of obtaining the best technology available in the world for upgrading communication,transport,weaponry and the intelligence network to meet any eventuality. He said that the present strategies and methodologies for crime control were being analysed,evaluated and reconditioned with a special focus on community policing and service delivery. He said that the successful training of these highly talented girls was all set to add a golden chapter in the glorious history of Punjab Police. The state police were going to recruit 500 woman constables.
