Did Panchkula realtor Suresh Kumars love affair with a relative that was opposed by both his and the girls immediate families lead to his gruesome murder? With no other dispute or rivalry coming to the fore, the police are focusing on this honour killing angle to further their investigation in the case.
Twenty six-year-old Suresh was engaged to a girl from Bhagwanpura village near Chandimandir. The police have, however, found that he had been using a secret mobile number to keep in touch with another girl. They are now trying to get information from Sureshs elder brother Rakesh. Officials believe Rakesh must be aware of his younger brothers love affair. However,Rakesh and his family members deny this.
Investigators say the family of the distant cousin with whom Suresh had an affair was dead against the match. When the families came to know about the relationship, they strongly disapproved of it citing tradition. Shortly after this, both Suresh and the girl, whom he loved, were engaged elsewhere against their wishes. Although the girl was to get married shortly, and Sureshs own wedding was tentatively set for January, they continued meeting and stayed in touch over the phone.
On finding out about their relationship, the girls family had even taken away her mobile phone two days before Sureshs murder, prompting him to visit her personally, said an officer.
Since the girl was also based near Baddi, the investigators suspect that Suresh had visited Baddi a day before the murder and even on the fateful night when his burnt car was found almost 2 km from the town,to meet the girl. However,he had left home telling his parents that he was going out to watch a movie.
Since Sureshs call details support the honour killing theory, the officers are extracting the details of his text messages, which, they feel, will throw more light on the type of relationship the two shared.
